Flimby is nestled deep within the rustic coastline of Cumbria and is where New Balance has been handcrafting their ‘Made in England’ range since 1982.
The highly experienced hands of local workers at the Flimby factory currently manufacture an impressive average of 28,000 shoes every week.
The fact that New Balance, a US brand of considerable scale, has kept its Flimby workforce and factory in the UK for so many years is a testament to both their brand values and the hard work and craftsmanship of the factory workers.
Since its launch over 30 years ago, New Balance’s ‘Made in the UK’ line has become known for its quality construction and acute attention to detail.
Some of our favourites from the New Balance ‘Made in England’ 2020 Drop. New Balance 1500 YOR
The New Balance 1500 shoes made its initial debut back in 1989, following on from its popular 1300 and 1400 predecessors, as New Balance’s flagship running shoe during the running craze that had taken the world by storm.
One of the most recent additions to the 1500 collection is the “Year of the Rat” colourway which, as the name suggests, has been released in celebration of Chinese New Year.
This design features a predominantly pigskin suede in black that is complimented by rich caramel-coloured accents. The discrete mesh panelling allows for a sleek design whilst giving the wearer an additional level of lightweight breathable comfort. All of this sits neatly on a retro ecru-toned midsole with ENCAP ® cushioning for additional comfort and support.
This American- British hybrid design delivers an unrivalled level of comfort, style and performance. The 991 was introduced back in 2001, building on the back of the popular 990 series.
The 991 is the perfect layer of tonal components. Similar to the 1500, the 991 is made from pigskin upper suede and features subtle, breathable mesh panels that allow for maximum comfort.
The Abzorb® technology in the midsole of the 991 keeps it lightweight and gives additional cushioning for all day comfort and enhanced durability.
New Balance 577
The New Balance 577 delivers the consistent level of high-quality craftsmanship that you would expect, making them an obvious favourite from the ‘Made in England’ range.
Built with comfort in mind, the 577 encompasses ENCAP ® midsole technology, which provides additional foot support and longevity whilst on foot.
Similar to the 1500 and 991, the 577 features a gentle, yet durable, pigskin suede and breathable mesh upper on top of a rubber outsole.
Last, but certainly not least, of our favourites from the ‘Made in UK’ range is the New Balance 670.
The premium-soft suede and leather uppers are paired beautifully with the lightweight mesh panels, improving the durability of the shoe whilst allowing for improved ventilation whilst on-foot.
A stand-out feature of this shoe is the C-CAP ® midsole technology, which provides additional cushioned support to the wearer without sacrificing the flexibility of the shoe.
