The Sebago Brand Story

Sebago: Timeless Craftsmanship Meets Nautical Heritage

Founded in 1946 in Westbrook, Maine, Sebago has been synonymous with quality, durability, and classic American style. The brand's inception was driven by Daniel J. Wellehan Sr., William Beaudoin, and Joseph Cordeau, who aimed to produce hand-sewn footwear that combined traditional craftsmanship with modern design

Sebago's first product, the iconic penny loafer, was inspired by Native American moccasins and featured the company's patented welt construction. This design quickly gained popularity, leading to rapid expansion and the production of over a million pairs by 1954

In 1970, Sebago introduced the Docksides® boat shoe, a model that would become emblematic of the brand. Designed for sailors, the Docksides® featured non-marking rubber soles, non-corrosive brass eyelets, and hand-sewn construction, making them both functional and stylish . Their popularity soared, especially among the preppy culture of the 1980s, cementing their status as a fashion staple

Sebago's commitment to quality and authenticity has led to collaborations with notable brands like Engineered Garments and Drakes, bringing contemporary twists to classic designs . Today, Sebago continues to honour its rich heritage while embracing modern trends, offering a range of footwear that resonates with both traditionalists and new generations alike.
