Obey Clothing - Into the Gallery

May 9, 2023

From the Beyond The Streets London Exhibition which ran from February to May 2023 at the Saatchi Gallery, Urban Industry were granted private access to capture the latest collection from OBEY against the backdrop of Shephard Fairey's large installations that were featured as a major part of the exhibition.

Obey Clothing at Urban IndustryHis fine art pieces that create powerful messages, Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary artist, activist and founder, who's work has decorated the streets of the world since he began his career in 1989. His work appears in museum's including The Smithsonian, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The National Portrait Gallery and many more locations, so this opportunity to capture a campaign in front of original designs was too good to miss.

Urban Industry - Obey collection.

Obey Clothing at Urban IndustryIn this campaign we've focussed on key pieces from the latest Obey collection that feature the same designs that were showcased in the exhibition. T-shirts with bold graphic back prints, including the Obey Peace Dove Blue T-Shirt carry this signature style, yet aim to prompt people to question their environment, their surroundings and perceptions. Matching the large-scale posted print that encompassed a wall in the room and highlighted the infamous OBEY face design is the Obey Half Face Icon T-shirt, another great example of how Shepard stays true to his background and artistic style.

Obey Clothing at Urban IndustryThe Obey District Shirt Jacket in Irish Cream has been added to this campaign, to show the versatility of the clothing designs and how streetstyle can overlap into other genres of fashion. This checkered jacket works well as an additional layer for styling over t-shirts, sweaters or hoodies. A piece we had to capture is the Obey Haus Musik Creneck Sweatshirt, it's vibrant Digital Lavender colourway perfectly contrasts against the monotone palette of the large pasted backdrop, and relates to the exhibition which celebrated 50 years of street culture, the beginning of the punk movement and the birth of hip hop.
