PFC Free - Perfluorocarbon Free

As part of our commitment to stocking responsibly produced clothing and accessories, we cannot overlook the use of PFCs (Perfluorinated Carbons) in some of our more technical products.

Fluorocarbons are commonly used in durable water repellent (DWR) treatments, known for their effectiveness in repelling water and dirt. Properties that explain why many brands have grown so reliant upon them. You will have seen them working whenever water beads off a waterproof jacket and runs off without making the garment wet underneath.

However, with growing evidence of harmful environmental impacts of certain fluorocarbons, such as PFAS, PFC, and PFCec, on wildlife, humans, and the planet, many outdoor brands are working to phase them out. While current research has not conclusively proven that wearing items treated with PFCs is directly harmful to users, it's clear that reducing their presence in the environment is crucial.

We are proud to stock brands like Haglofs, Fjallraven, Patagonia, and Klattermusen, who have already moved many of their jackets away from DWR coatings. Look out for our PFC-free icon on products that avoid using them.
