The Merrell 1TRL Brand Story
Committed to creating high performing shoes for the outdoor world, Merrell was established in 1987 by Clark Matis and John Schweizer - two executives from Rossignol Ski Company who joined forces with Randal Ivan Merrell, a well regarded custom boot designer. Together they decided to build more affordable boots that could be worn by everyone and anyone wishing to take part in outdoor adventures. Since 1997, Wolverine World Wide has owned the company - making the brand one of the market leaders of today.
Merrell’s ethos is to inspire people about the world outside - no matter who you are, and their recent campaign in 2018 ‘Trail For Everyone’ reflects their dedication in building a more inclusive business. The current Merrell President, Chris Hufnagel strives for a sustainable approach, ‘We exist to inspire everyone to explore the outdoors, we need a healthy home in order to do just that.’
