On Saturday night we headed down to London’s House Of Vans to celebrate the launch of Vans’ highly anticipated collaboration with London design house Eley Kishimoto.
We were welcomed into the venue by Eley Kishimoto greeting gnomes projected on the walls of the buildings skate park area, as well as an array of light displays featuring the UK brands iconic print. There was a real party vibe to the celebrations with custom Eley Kishimoto helium balloons stuck to the ceilings and screens playing the collections colourful promo video, while the gallery area was decked out in the collaborations patterns and colours, showcasing pieces from the collection in perspex cases for the crowd to preview.
Eley Kishimoto was founded back in 1992 by husband and wife Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto. They quickly made a name for themselves with their stand out womenswear designs that regularly exhibited at LFW. The mission was to ‘Print the World’, and their values were based around self expression and authenticity, which Vans also hold dear. The brand used their vibrant, eye catching designs and unique creative direction to really set themselves apart and as years went by they continued to develop, moving in to other areas including furniture, glassware and even architecture.
Vans have really tapped into Eley Kishimoto’s unique creativity for this collaboration as stand out prints and patterns are applied to a selection of classic footwear styles from the Californian giants, as well as several apparel and accessory pieces for both men and women. The aptly named “Living Art” collection merges both fashion and art, encapsulating the spirit of living and ‘wearable art’.
Aside from the visually pleasing presentation of the well executed collection, there was also a serious line up of music from some of the UK’s biggest names in Grime, with performances from the likes of D Double E & Logan Sama, Getts and JME that kept the party going well into the early hours of the morning.
