One thing is for sure about autumn and winter in the UK: the conditions will range from glorious to treacherous.
While not as cold as Scandinavia and North America, we have to endure a ridiculous amount of rainfall – one that literally puts a dampener on everything.
These conditions call for a different type of footwear: higher, sturdier, more weatherproof. Boots, in other words. Usually needed from October till March.
The MTE Line
Vans’ MTE line – “Made for the Elements” – gives you this exact type of all-weather footwear while retaining the street-friendly Vans aesthetic that we all know and love. It’s only on second glance that you realise that they are in fact boots, rather than sneakers.
They’re lightweight and they avoid the chunky look that can be off-putting about some boots – which is no mean feat in terms of design.
MTE styles keep your feet warm and dry, and they give you robust protection at the toe and forefoot, greater traction and – most importantly – supreme comfort. Ideal for those who divide their time between urban and rural landscapes.
Out Wandering in the SK8-Hi MTE and the Ultrarange EXO Hi MTE
To test out our two main styles of MTE – the SK8-Hi and the Ultrarange EXO Hi – we headed two minutes down the road to Eastbourne Beach for a pebbly, misty, windswept wander.

We’ve got colourways to suit any style – from minimalistic black to trusty browns and blues, as well as a few more vibrant options and even a spot of camo.
