Urban Industry Best of 2013: Sean H

December 19, 2013

Best Release

New Balance x Norse Projects ‘Danish Weather’ 1500 PackAnyone here knows that I’m easily impressed with anything that comes through from New Balance, especially when it’s in the form of their 1500 silhouette. Having said this I’m not keen on every colour or collab that New Balance work on, in fact most of which I wouldn’t personally ever wear. I think it was the understated autumnal colour palette that won me over on these. I loved them. I also also couldn’t make release and they sold out faster than the speed of light.

Best Brand

i love ugly – These guys seem to be getting it spot on at the moment and despite bringing out such a large range of product, quality never seems to be compromised. I think it’s the overall branding of the label that does it for me; from their ever changing interactive website, to their clean photography and well thought out marketing.

Best New Brand

Victate – OK, so Victate aren’t exactly new so to speak, having been around for a few years now, but I really like what they’re up to. The brands humble approach and meticulous detail means it’s all about the quality and they’re not afraid to take time to reach a standard they they’re happy with. For once it’s more about the clothing and less about the money. I’m looking forward to seeing what Victate are up to in 2014.

Best Movie

Elysium – After enjoying Neill Blomkamp’s first success with District 9, I had to go and watch his latest work when it released a few months back. His second film didn’t disappoint. I’m not going to waste your time with an inadequate film review, when our own Sean M has done an excellent job already of summarizing the sci-fi masterpiece. I recommend watching if you haven’t done so already and you can check out Sean M’s full review here… http://www.urbanindustry.co.uk/blog/movie-review-elysium.asp

Best Album

Ghost Poet – Some Say I So I Say Light – Obaro Ejimiwe (Ghostpoet) puts out another cracking album this year. Much like Blomkamp, Ghostpoet’s second major piece of work ticked all the right boxes. I’ve been a fan since his first album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam, was released back in 2011 so he was going to have to do something drastically wrong for me to dislike this album…. thankfully he didn’t and I loved it.

Best Moment

So I’ve cheated here a little as my best moment wasn’t technically this year, although 31st December 2012 pretty much should count, but how can I pick any other moment over becoming a father for the first time. Charlie was my highlight of 2012, 2013 and no doubt will be for many years to come.
