Amongst a bevy of winterized footwear releases at Urban Industry of late, two Boston heavyweights join forces to give us one of the most notable collaborative efforts of the season, as Saucony and Penfield present the “60/40” pack
It’s been a great year for Saucony and their collaborative efforts, which have seen the brand continue to develop during the retro runner resurgence. Their latest venture sees them link up with outdoor specialists Penfield; utilising both brands strengths and combining their unique aesthetics. The result is a trio of highly wearable styles, with enough tech inside to battle the harsh conditions that the Winter brings.
The pack reworks Saucony’s Shadow Original silhouette, applying Penfield’s 60/40 Cotton Nylon mix to the water-repellent upper, with suede added for a durable finish. A padded collar and tongue provides protection for the foot, with the polyurethane midsole and Saucony’s iconic heel cushioning system giving additional support and comfort.
You can see the brands have taken themes from Mountaineering to inspire the shoes design, with a kind of hiking boot feel that’s been reworked into the running shape, completed with nice little touches in the rope style laces and mesh netting on the heel. Additional features include subtle flecks on the white midsole, a black outsole and dual branding on the tongue and insole.
Arriving in three seasonal colour ways of tan with brown detailing, olive with pops of purple and a deep obsidian blue, the shoes are a great representation of the two brands who each have a rich heritage behind them and a similar background. There has definitely been a lot of consideration behind the design, with everything from material to minor details applied and constructed to the highest quality.
The Saucony x Penfield 60/40 Pack goes on sale from Tuesday the 2nd of December with a free dual branded carabiner with every purchase to celebrate the release!
