The North Face

Certain brands transcend style and refuse to be pigeon-holed as a certain type of clothing for a certain style of people. One such brand is The North Face, who we welcome to Urban Industry for the first time this Autumn. Everyone from the Wu-Tang Clan to the guy on the retro mountain hiking tip has been known to rock the Californian outdoors clothing brand.

Founded in 1968 in San Francisco, the brand has grown to become synonymous with the outdoors lifestyle and continues to be incredibly popular with climbers, mountaineers, skiers, snowboarders, hiker and endurance athletes alike. However it was in the 90s and the rise in popularity of groups like Wu-Tang that saw the brand really gain prominence outside of its originally intended market. The hip-hop community embraced the puffed-up outdoors jackets look and soon The North Face logo was as visible on the streets as it once was on the mountains. The brand at one point even held the dubious honour, previously held by the likes of Nike Air Jordan and Starter jackets, of being the must-have brand that people would commit a felony for! Add to that the brand’s on-going collaboration series with the likes of Supreme and you have a label that has managed to stay relevant for over 4 decades

With all the outdoors heritage of the brand as well as its connection to street culture, it makes sense that we would stock The North Face here at Urban Industry. For Fall 2013 we’ve gone for a mix of heritage items and a couple of pieces that illustrate the technological advances The North Face have made in recent years. No Killer Bees bright yellow jackets (yet), but we do have a solid selection of outerwear, boots and backpacks. Look out for more goodness dropping here soon at Urban Industry as the weather gets colder.
