A lot of times you have a free beer in your hand and are surrounded by industry peers, chances are it’s to promote something and the libations have been provided by a brand with deep pockets. Yesterday’s gathering at Boxpark for the inaugural The Daily Street Summer Party was a welcome relief from all this and I can say, having travelled up with my girlfriend to London for the day, that it was really chilled out and enjoyable affair. From the get-go the Sunday afternoon scheduled time-slot suited us a lot better than your typical Thursday night in London gathering. Credit goes to the team at TDS for organising everything so well. I had envisioned a Dawn of the Dead-style scenario with an army of 5-panel-clad zombies baying for free alcohol and burgers. Thankfully, I was way off the mark and Adam, Alex, Jamie and the rest of the team kept things running smoothly.
It was great to catch up various people we spend far too much time emailing and not enough time actually talking with. Paul from AONO was there with the family before he heads off to the Magic tradeshow in Las Vegas later this week; Alan from AnyForty was also there with the little monster Monni. I also briefly caught up with Geoff from VNA magazine. Tom from King Apparel/Breaks Mag was also holding court tactically near the bar (you can check out his awesome coverage HERE) and it was great to talk serious music business with Greg from Fuckin' Yeh as always. Fair play to the Daily Street boys for putting this altogether and thanks for having us. I’m looking forward to the next one already!
