Last night myself, SeanH and Dan rocked up for the inaugural Curious Beer Club held at The Dolphin pub here in Eastbourne. The idea for this monthly meet-up is to present a selection of guest brewers from the Sussex area, their beers and stories with good accompanying eats to soak it all up. Last night saw the Downlands Brewery serve a selection of their best beers over the course of the evening. Event organisers Adam and Rachel made it clear to us that they were not beer experts, but passionate enthusiasts and this set the tone for the evening that followed. Head brewer Widdi talked us through each beer but didn’t overcomplicate the matter at hand which resulted in us sampling some awesome beers in a laid back environment coupled with some amazing dishes prepared by the team at The Dolphin (out to the black pudding scotch eggs). Favourites on the night that we all agreed on included the Pale (4.1% abv) with its bright and hoppy characteristics.
The Dolphin is a bit of an Urban Industry regular haunt so we’re delighted to see new events like this take off. For £20 a head we had a stellar night out and left feeling more than adequately sated. The homemade pork scratchings that we were given as a take-home gift were the icing on the cake too!
