Looking to past technology to inspire future designs, Saucony Originals channel the 16-bit graphics of the 90’s gaming era for their latest release, the Grid SD “Games” Pack.
The classic Saucony Grid SD runner was originally introduced in 1991, around the same time of the video game industry revolution. As new technologies saw advancements in graphics, 16-bit were delivering visuals far superior to its 8-bit predecessor, something that was not previously considered possible. Running shoes were going through developments of their own at the time as footwear design really started to push forward, delivering more functionality and giving the wearer a far more comfortable ride.
The Grid SD was one of Saucony’s key performance trainers for most training types, utilising the latest in innovative technology and still maintaining a contemporary, form fitting style. A key feature on the Grid SD was the brands iconic G.R.I.D (Ground Reaction Inertia Device) midsole cushioning system that provided stability, comfort and absorbed shock during movement. As with many popular running silhouettes, the Grid SD quickly moved into the lifestyle market and became a firm favourite with sneaker lovers worldwide.
The latest iteration of the shoe in the Saucony Originals Grid SD “Games” pack sees it undergo a premium rework, as leather, soft suede and hits of synthetic mesh are applied to it’s multi-panelled upper. Arriving in four dynamic colour ways that are reminiscent of nostalgic 16-bit systems, additional features include a moulded forefoot, stabilising quarter straps on the laces, reflective 3M on the heel and a triangular lug system on the shoes outer.
