To coincide with last month’s Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star game that was held in Queens, New York, Nike are turning to legends of the game Bo Jackson and Ken Griffey Jr. for the Nike MLB All Star quick strike pack. Both the Nike Air Trainer SC High QS “MLB All-Star” as well as the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 "MLB All-Star" are set for release on Friday 9th August at 09:00 (BST). The Bo Jackson SC High will retail at £105, and the Ken Griffey Jr. Max 1 will be on sale for £145.
We normally get quite a bit of hype surrounding Nike’s All-Star game releases. Let’s not forget the crazy lottery system we had to implement for the Galaxy Foamposites last year. They were part of an NBA All-Star game pack. Also, earlier this year the intergalactic Area 72 pack also tied in with the annual basketball festival. Baseball’s popularity doesn’t translate as well on this side of the Atlantic though. I must confess that Bo Jackson’s all-round beefiness had me mistakenly pinning him as a star of the NFL. Also my only exposure to Ken Griffey Jr. prior to this Quickstrike release turning up at Urban Industry was his limited to his inflated cranium guest-starring on The Simpsons.
Regardless, both of these QS shoes are looking smart. Both releases are adorned with “Nike New York” logos, as well as graphical prints. The Griffey Max 1 with the gridded grey nylon mesh upper, white leather and black nubuck accents, black flecked outsole and icey outsole is a banger in particular. Don’t expect these to hang around for long!
