When you think denim jeans, one of the first names that will pop into your head is Levi’s. A brand name that has become synonymous with quality, their unrivalled product range has been proven to withstand the test of time. With roots dating back to 1853, Levi’s rich heritage in denim design has seen them become a global leader in jeans, with innovation and quality at the heart of everything they do. Every detail, every stitch, every rivet is constructed with durability in mind.
Levi’s continue to keep an eye on their past as they look towards the future, combining their heritage with modern design, all the while maintaining their core values. A pair of Levi’s is the ultimate staple piece and to celebrate the brand’s illustrious history and solid product range, we take a closer look at some key styles here at Urban Industry.
Linking up with Brighton based illustrator Jamie Eke, we have highlighted four key Levi’s styles and built outfits around the silhouettes to showcase the fit, as well as offering up suggestions as to how each pair can be worn…
The 511 are probably the most popular shape of recent times. Arriving in a slim tapered fit, the jeans have a low rise and can be worn many different ways, from shorter in the leg or longer stacked against footwear. Made from 100% cotton 14.5oz denim, the new hero of the Levi’s denim line is built to last. We also hold the Commuter 511 which is a real breakthrough in denim technology and great news to any fashion conscious urban commuter’s out there. Originally introduced back in 2011, the commuter combines technical and traditional fabrics, utilizing everything from 3M reflective technologies to water resistant treatments. Similair to the 510, they feature 2% elastane for increased mobility whilst still maintaining their durability. Packed full of features to protect the ‘commuter’ from potential hazards during their journey, the 511 Commuter seamlessly fuses fashion with functionality.
Levi’s 520 feature stretch elements to maintain the skinny look at all times through wear. They are designed to hang low on the hip with a drop crotch and are constructed from 98% cotton and 2% elastane to allow the fabric to stretch for increased comfort. The 520 model gives comfort around the thigh and seat for a slouchy look, tapering the look down to the skinny leg opening. Perfect for someone with an athletic build looking for the skinny look.
501’s are the original Levis jean and this shape was where it all began for the now world famous brand. It remains largely unchanged from the original but has been upgraded in places to cater for modern needs and trends. The 501’s fit most with an average to slim build and is a great all rounder for any casual outfit. Featuring the iconic button fly, the 501’s will fit slightly looser than the other silhouettes we have covered. There is a great range of washes here at Urban Industry with everything from the vintage stonewash to the Marlon Raw Denim, with each pair hand treated and washed down for a soft, comfortable feel.
With the 501’s rich heritage in workwear, we thought we would construct this outfit together with some workwear inspired pieces. The Dickies Long Sleeve Work Shirt works with the Redwing Classic Work Boot, while the Poler Huntsman Beanie completes the look.
The 508 offers up a great medium between a loose and skinny fit as they sit looser around the waist and top half of the leg, gradually tapering down to the leg opening. The 508’s will not compromise comfort as they offer up a tailored style and fit, working perfectly for those with an athletic build. The jeans feature five pockets across the hip and rear, zip fly and subtle Levi’s patch logo on the back for a classic look.
This look aims highlight the 508’s shape when worn with running footwear styles. We have stacked the jeans against a pair of Asics Gel Lyte V’s and added in a Rains Breaker jacket just in case you get caught up in any adverse weather.
