I’ve come up with a pet project for the Urban Industry Journal to wear a pair from new and see how they change over time as I try out several ways to keep them fresh, reporting the progress every few months and eventually see the results down the line.
The pair in focus for this little project comes from Japanese denim experts Edwin and their ED80 Slim Tapered Jeans constructed from their Red Listed Selvage 14 0z denim in blue, unwashed. A smart style, the Ed-80 is one of Edwin’s slimmer styles featuring a low rise and tapered legs, definitely my new, personal favourite. Arriving unwashed, the clean style is made from 100% cotton with additional features including the brands classic 5-pocket detail, button fly and minimal embellishments for a clean finish. An extremely durable style all around that will certainly withstand the test of time.
As with a lot of selvedge denim they first come so rigid that it feels like they might stand up on their own. For the uninitiated a pair like this can feel fairly uncomfortable when you first try them on but not to persevere at this point would be a mistake with how the selvedge will fit, feel and look in a few months.
A big part of owning a decent pair of denim jeans is how you care and wear the jeans to make them your own. There are many techniques you can try from freezing to febreezing, but what will give you the best results? Ill try many different ways and see which ones work for me as of course, from this point in we won’t be washing them for some time…
Firstly, lets document how the denim looks brand new,
