Friday Tunes: Secret Machines ‘Ten Silver Drops’

January 03, 2014

It is with a heavy heart that I bring you this week’s Friday Tunes pick. Secret Machines were one of those bands I felt never got the full praise they deserved when they did the rounds a few years ago. I’m a big fan of their debut album ‘Now Here Is Nowhere Again’ and the 2006 follow-up ‘Ten Silver Drops’. Brothers Brandon and Benjamin Curtis produced some lush prog and psych-influenced rock together over these two albums. Benjamin would leave the band shortly after ‘Ten Silver Drops’ and go on to form the critically-acclaimed School of Seven Bells. Sadly, I learned last week that Benjamin passed away at just 35 after a short battle with T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. I was really bummed out by this news and have been dusting off and listening to a lot of Secret Machines since then. Sit back and enjoy the standout track ‘Alone, Jealous and Stoned’ from their second album. If you like what you hear, then read more about Benjamin’s life HERE
