Friday Tunes: Melvins ‘A Senile Animal’

March 21, 2014

I’ve been prompted to dig this album out again thanks to the latest HBO masterpiece that is True Detective. Unlike all my cool-guy friends who’ve already wrapped up watching season one, I’m only up to episode four. What an episode that was though. Goddamn. As well as that truly epic six minute tracking shot that literally had me on the edge of my seat, we were also treated to a veritable feast when it came to this episode’s soundtrack. Wu-Tang Clan, Grinderman and the almighty Sleep were all in the mix along with Melvins. The track ‘A History Of Bad Men’ from their 2006 album ‘A Senile Animal’ perfectly captured the scuzzy vibe when protagonists Rust and Hart (played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson respectively) stumble upon a fairly ropey biker bar. To be honest I’d be down with any bar that plays such heavy vibes on the reg, fictional or otherwise. Enjoy the album above and check out more from the Melvins HERE
