I often smile when I enter Eastbourne and see the 'Welcome to the sunshine coast' sign. Especially when i am sitting on the top deck of the bus steaming in clothes soaking wet from the torrential downpour going on. Today was one of those days but I truly raised a grin thanks to some great music.
Kings go Forth are Milwaukee natives that make sweet Soul/Funk. I had been put onto them by an old friend who had brought me back a CD from his visit to the States. I had forgotten about it until this week when, in the process of uploading music onto an MP3 player my other half had genorously bought me, I rediscovered this gem.
The main jewel is lead singer Black Wolf and his smokey vocals which soar on the thermals created by the backing singers. The music itself takes in soul and funk, while touching on disco and reggae, transporting you to a time zone between the 60's and 70's inhabited by The Isley Brothers. The band are as tight as a body suit while the production, although well studied, still sounds as loose as some bell bottoms.
Unfortunately a look at their site and Facebook page does not show much activity but grab a copy of this album on any format you can (8 track maybe?) and float on that Summer Breeze we need to blow the rain clouds away!
