‘Don’t Take Our Filth Away’ by the rather awfully-named Duck. Little Brother, Duck! Was one of my favourite LPs of last year. I listened to it incessantly when it dropped on Topshelf Records and have been getting back in to it again recently. It’s a great confused mess of a record that sounds like it’s teetering on the point of collapse for most of its running length. Yet there’s still enough holding it together to make it a compelling listen. There are flashes of that Cap’n Jazz fractured pop sensibility that make for some instant sinagalong bits; there’s complicated math-y bits that sounds like they’ve been given to a 5-year old to play, but really it all adds to the rough and ready charm of the record. There’s not a whole lot I can tell you about Duck. Little Brother, Duck! other than they hail from Portland. The Facebook page is worth a look and you can grap all their stuff for free on Bandcamp.
