Fjallraven are probably best known for their simplistic, easy to wear Kanken backpacks that can be seen on the back of the fashion conscious across the globe. There is however a lot to be said for the brands considered outerwear department, which draws from its Scandinavian heritage and utilises over 50 years of experience in the Swedish outdoors.
The key piece in the brands solid outerwear portfolio is the Greenland Jacket. It was first introduced back in 1968 by brand founder Åke Nordin, developed in collaboration with the members from the 1966 Greenland expedition. The jacket was originally constructed from heavyweight tent material, adding bees wax and paraffin to the formula to create, what was considered to be, the perfect jacket and trouser combination that enabled explorers to tackle the elements.
As with most good outerwear pieces, the jacket soon made its way to the lifestyle market, adopted by mountain explorers to forest walkers and everything in between, keen to experience the benefits of the jacket and its hard wearing material.
The brand works continuously to develop and improve its materials and designs, keeping functionality in mind always. The Greenland Jacket is a great example of a piece that has been continuously re-considered to get the best from the garment.
The Jacket is constructed from the brands adaptable G-1000 material. G-1000 has withstood the test of time, keeping the wearer prepared for all types of exploration, in all climates year round. Made from a dense polyester and cotton mix, the material is treated with Greenland wax which, depending on how much is applied, will keep you warm and dry against rain and wind, and still allow for air flow giving breathability. Its light weight makes it easy to carry round, while also being wind and water proof, as well as offering protection from UV rays and mosquito bites. The construction is second to none, with high levels of functionality throughout, with reinforced shoulders and yoke, fitted hood and two way zipper and button combination on the front and sleeve cuffs that eliminates the chance of any unwanted weather getting through.
