The latest drop from NYC brand Acapulco Gold has landed on these shores and we here at Urban Industry are honoured to be one of only a handful of UK stockists of this great brand. We’ve always had a great relationship with the guys over at Acapulco since we started stocking them a couple of seasons ago. Personally, I’ve always been a big of the brand going right back to their awesome Polo bear rip graphic. On top of that, Acapulco Gold are producing some of the best fleece pieces in the business and their heavyweight Canadian-made crews and hoodies have gotten us through many a harsh winter’s day.
For Summer 2013, Acapulco Gold have come through with a pretty solid collection. That trademark gritty aesthetic is present and correct in many of the graphics adorning tees and caps. Elsewhere the customary nod to pop culture is evident with various pieces paying tribute to the late comedian Richard Pryor, as well as David Cronenberg’s 2007 masterpiece ‘Eastern Promises’. Elsewhere we see the on-going collaboration with photographer Janette Beckman and her archive of early hip-hop shots represented with the Acapulco Gold Janette Beckman x AG EPMD t-shirt. With so many brands out there happy to churn out the same logo prints season after season, it’s refreshing to see a brand like Acapulco Gold produce something with a bit of substance to it that also informs the brand’s identity.
Moving away from the printed t-shirts, we also some killer pieces of cut and sew on offer. The Officers Ripstop Button Down Shirt and Lightning Bolt Baseball Jacket are both great examples of the kind of progressive stuff Acapulco Gold are doing right now. ‘Built to Fit and Tough as Shit’ is the Acapulco Gold strapline, and these American-made pieces are a testament to that.
