Air Jordan ‘Remastered’
Last summer the Jordan Brand Vice President Dave Schecter made a pretty big announcement as he revealed that Nike plans to ‘remaster’ the Air Jordan retro line in 2015. Following the first release from the series this weekend in the super limited Jordan 4 ‘Columbia’, we take a look at what you can expect from the Air Jordan Remastered program in a bit more depth, as well as what we have arriving here at Urban Industry this spring.
The idea was born out of a calling from the brands passionate consumers, as well as Nike’s willingness to show it’s own dedication towards improving the line and matching quality to the perceptions of it’s loyal fans. By applying more considered materials, while working to the shoes original designs and specifications, the retro’s are as close to the OG’s as you will get.
The result is a more premium product that will allow the wearer to get the look and feel of the much-desired original. There have been changes made to the production process that sees Nike work closely with new factories and tanneries to ensure that the remastered silhouettes pass through several quality control points at each stage of manufacturing. The shoe’s themself will see supple leather adorn the uppers, with every colour way, every stitch carefully considered to match that of the original. If an imperfection is found it will be discarded, while the shoes construction takes a focus around durability, ironing out some issues brought to light with the previous retro shapes, to create a robust trainer that is built to last.
The standards are high for both production and quality. Innovative methods will be utilised to make sure that edges are cut to perfection, perforations are precise and all excess glue and blemishes are removed for a clean finish. Even the Jumpman himself is getting a bit of an upgrade, as they address the smaller details such as defined fingers and shoelaces to complete the logo.
The remastered collection just so happens to coincide with the Jordan brand’s 30th anniversary, which is a nice touch. But ultimately this one is for the fans and those that have continued to support the brand, giving younger (and older) generations a chance to experience the same magic of putting on pair of Air Jordan Retro’s that they had 30 years ago.
