Ten Years ago, in the early morning hours, we began to hand assemble the catalogs for the launch of OBEY Clothing. The do it yourself spirit that Shephard had always practiced was in effect as we put the final binding on the pages that would showcase the first collection. It's hard to believe the time that has passed but this year marks our TEN Year Anniversary. To commemorate the occasion we decided to create a special hand picked collection of nostalgic graphics for an exclusive offering. What better way to mark this milestone that by digging in to our archives and re-issuing timeless OBEY Graphics from that very first catalog. We feel these tees are as classic and relevant now as when they were first released ten years ago.

Personally i've been aware and into Shepard Faireys work since 1995-96, way before i had a store i used to order signed screen printed posters from the Obeygiant webstore for $40 and have them shipped in from San Francisco...i'm glad i did as they're probably worth a bit now! I was of course even happier that a few years down the line I have a clothing store and can stock Obey Clothing!
Since 1989, the Obey street art campaign has become an important urban phenomenon, subconsciously touching those well aware of their environment. Through the vision of Shepard Fairey, Obey has evolved into one of the most controversial yet influential symbols of the 21st century. Derived from a pop-culture athlete in the eighties, the Obey icon has been bombed in developed and rural cities around the world. Its ambiguous idea immediately sparks philosophical discussion and ultimately motivates the inner-person through active participation. With the help of Mike Ternosky and Erin Wignall, Obey Clothing continues to spread Shepard¹s message through sportswear fashion and one-of-a-kind accessories. Each piece designed is cleverly thought out, attracting all genres and ages, reminding them of the days when "style" was a one syllable word. Obey Clothing has been a solid brand for Urban Industry since day one when it arrived in the UK, the selection keeps getting better and we can't be more happy with Obey Clothing. The Obey campaign can be explained as an experiment in Phenomenology. The first aim of Phenomenology is to reawaken a sense of wonder about one's environment. The Obey campaign attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question both the campaign and their relationship with their surroundings. Because people are not used to seeing advertisements or propaganda for which the motive is not obvious, frequent and novel encounters with Obey propaganda provoke thought and possible frustration, never the less revitalizing the viewer's perception and attention to detail.
