For issue 4 of our Selected feature we decided to opt for brands with a little bit of grit to what they do. Established brands such as Stussy and Undefeated always come correct with graphics that have a bit of substance to them, not necessarily tough-guy flexing; more that they don’t have that cartoon-y edge to them that characterises a lot of other streetwear brands. Less is the newest addition to the brand roster here at Urban Industry of the four, but their tasteful use of camouflage and strong graphic prints have already seen them win over a multitude of fans outside of their native Taiwan.
The first look we assembled is streetwear 101, and we don’t mean that in a derogatory manner. A touch of camo in the form of the Less Tiger Stripe Pants, a pair of Air Max 1s (Nike Air Max 1 London QS - Cool Grey), a basic Stussy logo hoody and a strong Undefeated graphic tee to finish (Undefeated Youth Basketball T-Shirt - Grey Heather). This really is the basics done right, and it is a look that is technically timeless. As much as the naysayers will say camo is dead, it has been and will always remain an integral part of streetwear. Air Max 1s are that one shoe that can be issued in any colourway and still sell. Likewise a Stussy or Undefeated logo is never going to look out of place.
The second look we’ve put together definitely has more of a warm weather vibe to it. Again Stussy and Undefeated are the core pieces here with the Undefeated Duck Camp Cap in Khaki, Stussy Flower Stock T-Shirt in White and Stussy Dark Aloha Trunk Shorts in Blue mixing up a variety of prints and colours to good effect without becoming too garish or migraine-inducing. A pair of the cruelly overlooked Nike Free Run+ 2 Woven Shoes in Pure Platinum rounds off a strong look that is ideal for the months ahead.
Our penultimate look shows that Stussy don’t need to just lean on that Shawn Stussy script logo to come up with something good. The Stussy Dot Stripe Shirt in Black is a neat short-sleeved shirt that features bot dots and stripes throughout. We’ve teamed it with the solid pair of Obey Working Man Slim Pants in Army to keep it unfussy. The classed the look up with the inclusion of an I Love Ugly watch and a Pine Fort tote bag to really tie the whole room together. A pair of Nike Tennis Classic AC Shoes in Obsidian finishes the outfit.
To finish we’ve gone with the classic pairing of Stussy and Undefeated. The Undefeated Undftd Fleece Varsity Jacket is a classic varsity-style jacket that is becoming something of a seasonal staple. We’ve layered this with the Stussy Curvy Stock T-Shirt in Steel. This is a fresh new take on the classic Stussy logo and features the same free-flow hand-drawn style that we’ve come to associate with the brand. Keeping with the classic theme, we’re matching the blues and black in the jacket and tee with the Nike Air Max 90 OG Shoes in Sail/Neutral Grey/Laser Blue. This reissue of the classic Air Max 90 colourway is still as timeless as when it was first released in 1990.
