VNA x OBEY Limited Edition Issue 15 Launch Party
Friday 27/05/11 - 03.05PM
Report from the night by SeanM
Last night myself, SeanH and Dan made the trip up to London for the VNA x Obey Limited Edition Issue 15 launch at Black Rat Press. The event was the official launch for the 15th issue of street art magazine VNA (VeryNearlyAlmost) and their collaboration on the issue with Shepard Fairey, mastermind behind Obey. On the night a special pack was available for purchase that included a gold screen-printed cover of issue 15 of VNA, designed by Fairey himself, along with a OBEY x VNA T-shirt, and an Obey sticker set. Fair dues to the crowds who queued in the less than perfect weather (howling rain, thunder) in order to get their hands on this awesome pack!
As luck would have it Black Rat Press also had an awesome selection of Shepard Fairey artwork on display as well. Some of the bigger pieces were definitely impressive but my eyes were more drawn to the hardcore inspired prints of Bad Brains and Darby Crash done on metal
Big thanks to the guys at VNA Magazine and Obey UK for the hospitality last night. We had a great time and it was really great to hang out and check out the artwork and have a few cheeky beers. We'll have a full recap look book article and video to follow!

Ben Davis arrives at Urban Industry
Sunday 22/05/11 - 09.33PM
Cult US work wear brand Ben Davis arrives in store.
Another great heritage brand arrives at Urban Industry, we have a lot of love for Ben Davis Work wear.
With a drive for all things well made and products with a history we knew we should really get hold of some of this classic brand sooner or later. Personally, I bought Ben Davis shirts back in the early '90's through a few stores in London and Brighton that carried it. Being a big Beastie Boy's fan you couldn't miss the iconic Ape head branding ( well before A Bathing Ape) worn by Mike D around the time of release of their Check Your Head album. Laping up anything to do with the Beastie Boys one of my first introductions to the Ben Davis brand was through an interview with the present family owner of Ben Davis in Grand Royal Magazine, a publication set up by the boys and they're Grand Royal Record Label. Its thought also that Mike D drew inspiration for the logo of his street wear brand X-Large from the Ben Davis Ape head design.
The Ben Davis brand has been running since 1935....Company founder Benjamin Franklin Davis' grandfather Jacob Davis was instrumental in the creation of the original Levi's Jeans.

During the '90's Ben Davis also drew a large following with the West Coast rap scene with the style of oversized workwear shirts and large cut startchy work pants. Here's Dr Dre flexing his black Ben Davis shirt in the 1992 Video for 'Let Me Ride' off his 'The Chronic' album of the same year.

I had at least 3 short sleeve shirts from Ben Davis during 1993,94, 95. In 1994 i was involved in a head on car crash with a German tour bus, my driving friend was unconcious and the car was on fire and I actually remember trying to pathetically beat out the flames with my brown Ben Davis Shirt once i'd gotten out. Didn't do much good and the German bus driver did a much better job with his fire extinguisher. Blackened and spotted with my blood (from where the windscreen shattering had cut me) it was binned at the hospital, still its amazing what a piece of clothing can make you remember. He got a ride in a helicopter which he doesn't remember and i got a ride in an ambulance, where's the justice.

Sunsport Sunglasses now at Urban Industry
Tuesday 17/05/11 - 02.57PM
Sunsport Sunglasses, the classic shades from the 70-80's arrive in store.

Another new brand for Urban Industry. Sunpocket Sunglasses. Sunpocket's were first seen gracing the faces of skiers in the French Alps back in the 1970's. Throughout the '70's and '80's this new folding arm and frame design became and instant classic with the ski set and international travellers alike, whatever happened in between the brand all but dissapeared by the late eighties. Cut forward to 2009 and a chance find, a pair of Sunpocket sunglasses was found in a cottage in Trysil, a Norwegian ski resort. The finder did his homework and 2 years later is producing the 2 original Sunpocket shapes (the Sport and Sunpocket 2) out of the original factory in Mauritius using the same materials and colour ways.
The sunglasses have a unique frame and arm folding hinge allowing the shades to be completely folded up on themselves.
The final fold shows how compact the sunglasses become. We also sell the Sunpocket Lanyards which secure around the arms and then around your neck making a pendent.
All the Sunpocket sunglasses come in a hard plastic, hinged case with a soft, drawstringed pouch for carrying them safely.
More from the Casio G-Shock Stable
Friday 13/05/11 - 12.09PM
We introduce the new Casio GW6900-1ER G Shock Watch this season.

We add another strong contender from the Casio G-Shock Watch collection for this Spring/Summer period, the Casio GW6900-1ER. Stealthy with it black resin case this particular G-Shock model features the Solar power function which is definitely an added boon as we all hate watch batteries running out. The whole face of the watch is made up of solar power panels cleverly cut around the watch face and digital readouts making sure that whenever the watch is in sunlight it will get charged.
The watch also features all the usual G-Shock bells and whistles with 200 Meter water resistancy and shock proofing as standard. What is a nice touch with the GW6900-1ER is that it incorporates DCF/MSF/WWVB/JJY/BPC-radio signal reception. Whether in Europe, North America and Japan or in the outer reaches of Canada, Central America and China – once the watch has been set to the local time, it receives the relevant signal and shows the correct time wherever you are, nice!

Snap Back Caps for Summer at Urban Industry
Tuesday 10/05/11 - 05.29PM
Loads of Snap Back caps for you to chose from to keep you looking your best this summer.

Snap back caps are the ultimate summer accessory. Whilst being practical in helping to keep the sun off your face, they also keep you looking fresh by adding a little something to the standard shorts and T-shirt combo. Having an arsenal of snap backs is essential to making sure you look your best this summer, and we have a great selection to sort you out.
The snap back was first popularised by American sports teams in the 80's, but has recently seen a resurgence in popularity the world over. The 6 panel hats have a 'snap to fit' function on the reverse, making them one-size fits all and a nice alternative to fitted hats. Vintage snaps from the 80s and 90s are still in high demand, but their modern counterparts are just as popular.

We also have some killer colour combinations from Only, The Hundreds and Obey. We've got all colours of the rainbow covered, making these the snap backs perfect for colour matching with any tee or pair of kicks. You don't need to layer up to look good, a simple kicks/tee/snap back combo will do the trick nicely. Check below for some examples of the Snap Backs in store and grab yourself a few to keep you going this summer.
